I Go Where I’m Towed

Tales of a Girl and Her Horse

Horse Camp

February 18, 2008

I went to a one-day horse camp at my barn today and rode two horses, Maydew and Mingo. When I put Mingo out, I left te gate open for another girl and horses got out of their pasture! We just let them run around until they were tired.

Horse camp is so much fun! I went from 9:30 to 3:00. I walked, trotted, cantered and jumped Maydew and Mingo. My favorite part was jumping a course on Maydew.

Lily Part 2

Lily

We tried out Lily for the second time! I have to use spurs and a crop but she is a good pony.

We walked, trotted, cantered and jumped cross rails and verticals. I fell off going over a cross rail because I jumped out before she jumped and my leg went over the side of her. Here is a picture of me falling off:

I got back on after I fell, of course!

We will have a vet look at her and if she is healthy we might buy her or bring her to Bon and Vin to see how she does with the other horses and cats and dogs and people (and chickens!). She is sweet and very cute.

Do you like her? How do I look on her?

I love her and want to buy her! I am so excited to get a pony!

Lily 1

Before I showed in the second MJP Stables show, I tried out a pony named Lily. She was very naughty the first time I rode her. She was pulling the reins out of my hands and going slow even though I had a crop and spurs.

She is a medium Welsh pony. She is white and really cute. My trainer says I look good on her.

The second time I rode her she was good and she didn’t do anything bad. I didn’t know how to use spurs, so I had to learn. Since, she is the first pony I tried, I do not know yet if we will buy her.

Thanks for taking our picture Mrs. Coles!

The First Two MJP Shows

February 5, 2008

During the first MJP Stables show, Shelly and I were in the Short Stirrup division. We got three blue ribbons and one red ribbon. We also got Grand Champion. I was so proud of Shelly and I. Our truck got stuck in the mud at the end of the show and someone had to pull us out.

At the second MJP show, Shelly was spooky and calling to another pony. I was very scared. We ended up with three thirds and a fourth. I was mad and disappointed that I did not do good. What made Shelly behave was that I trotted her in small circles and she relaxed.

The last two shows in this series will be in March.

No Haley Either

February 4, 2008

My trainer called a couple of days ago and said that Haley was going crazy in her stall. When I saw her, she was trotting in circles in her stall because she wanted to go outside. My trainer said we shouldn’t buy her. She said I could walk and trot Haley and help out with her sometimes, but she will not be mine.

My trainer is looking for a medium pony gelding. I have only tried out one pony so far. I wonder how long it will take to find the right pony.

I was sad that I would not be able to have Haley, but we trust my trainer a lot.

No More Shelly

February 3, 2008

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that we are stopping the lease with Shelly at the end of March after the MJP Stables show series. I would have had Shelly for a year in April.

Shelly will probably get leased by another little girl who will love her as much as I do.

Shelly and I have been through a lot together. I won my first blue ribbon on her and showed for the first time on her.

The good news I will get my very own pony. I will be sad to get rid of Shelly, but I am excited to get my own pony. I will probably get a gelding.

Haley

There is a new horse at my trainer’s barn named Haley. She is a Palomino Paint. She is green and can walk, trot, and canter. They are teaching her how to jump. She had a cold but is just about better. She is a large pony and really sweet. My mom and I love her. My trainer lets me help take care of her by walking her, brushing her and giving her water. Yesterday she gave me a kiss. Doesn’t she sound like a nice pony?

My Favorite Horse

January 10, 2008

Barbaro Racing

My favorite horse is Barbaro because I like racehorses and he won the Kentucky Derby. I have a model horse of him. He had a disease called lambitis, which he got after he broke his leg. After he got the disease, he broke another leg. His jockey was Edgar Prado in the race where he broke his leg. Everyone was upset when he was put down in January 2007.

Merry Christmas Shelly!

Shelly’s a Good Girl

Shelly has been very good and she deserves to get something for Christmas. I know she will get treats – lots of them. My mom wants to get her a Likit to hang in her stall. I think that’s a good idea!

Likits are like salt blocks, which horses need. I thought maybe we could get new fly bags for the summer to catch the flies.

Shelly really likes carrots to eat, so she might get one of two carrots. Shelly is going to be spoiled this holiday season!

Fertile Green Farms Show

November 25, 2007

Fertile Green Show

We went to the Fertile Green Farms horse show yesterday. Shelly and I were in the Open Rider Equitation division which consisted of a walk, trot, canter equitation classes and two cross rail classes. We got a fourth place ribbon in the equitation class and two first place ribbons in the cross rail classes. We ended up being the Grand Champions of our division!

My friends did great too. My five-year-old friend rode Shelly in the lead line division and was the Reserve Champion. Two of my friends rode in short stirrup and both of them pinned in every class. My friend, Kat was long stirrup Grand Champion. Every one from Royal Haven who rode were either champions or reserves for their division. It was a great day for Royal Haven!

All of my friends and I had a great time at the show. I am really proud of all of us, including Shelly!
